Supermarket staff in cashier and sales assistant roles are responsible for providing customer service, processing transactions, and maintaining the sales floor. This includes tasks like scanning items, handling payments, assisting customers with finding products, and keeping the store tidy. 

Cashier Responsibilities:

• Customer Service: Greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving issues. 
• Transaction Processing: Scanning items, handling cash, credit, and other payment methods, and issuing receipts. 
• Maintaining Checkout Area: Ensuring the checkout area is clean and organized. 
• Inventory Management: May be involved in counting cash drawers and reconciling sales with inventory. 
• Loss Prevention: May be involved in preventing theft or damage to store items. 

Sales Assistant Responsibilities:

• Customer Assistance: Helping customers locate items, providing product information, and offering recommendations. 
• Merchandising: Maintaining the appearance of the sales floor by stocking shelves, arranging displays, and ensuring items are priced correctly. 
• Inventory Management: May be involved in stocking shelves and rotating items. 
• Promotional Activities: May be involved in promoting products or special offers.
